First time reviews are always exciting as you get to guide people through your personal experience. Picture this: You walk in and BREAD, it hits your sense of smell before your eyes, so you start savoring the experience before you even sit down. As your mouth starts to water, you're welcomed to sit where you like. You're greeted by Nancy and her wonderful staff and you feel like you just had an out of the country experience that's a 5/5 all round.... Let's get to the food! Iced chai latte: 5/5 -spiced chais hold a special place, either you like them, or you don't. There's a perfect level of spice, to sweetness ratio to this drink at Josef's that it delivers. It's a good amount with the mason jar and ice, plus it paired perfectly with my breakfast! Josef's corned beef hash: 5/5 -hollandaise sauce on my over medium eggs on a blanket of delicious corned beef hash and a side of potatoes with a danish and sourdough bread.... Say less! Flavor profile wise, it pairs a lot better than you'd expect. The richness from the yolk and hollandaise make for an experience. I like ketchup on my potatoes so when I got a bite of the potatoes, with some corned beef and the egg. It made my taste buds tingle as I was hit by savory, sweet, and an almost umami flavor as these combined to a delicious almost "creamy" consistency without the need for any dairy or cheese.... It was an experience I think you should have for yourself! Bonus review: French toast 7/5 - my fiancée got an order of the French toast...let me tell you that when a meal sends you back to memories... you're going to be in for a good time. The sausage on the dish was rich, and flavorful as she asked me to try it, and I was just left in awe struck as it had a great mix of flavor, to fat, and crispy but still tender inside. The French toast though!?!? Bread that as soon as you bit in it starts to melt in your mouth, you're hit with a crunchy texture that's sweet, and almost salty, to an oil that is not dirty, and as you chew you feel as the inners are melting away you're now combining the powder sugar, and syrup to marry the flavors all together and you get yourself one of the best French toast bites I could ever describe to you.... If you're coming to Josef's... get the French toast. I will definitely be coming again, you've made a client out of me. Thank you Also, Nancy is a rock star! She was running around checking in on table, after table, the customer service was superb! Get her a raise!
We finally had the opportunity to dine here for breakfast. When you walk in you're greeted with a doodle of their baked goods. Already a good thing. It does say to seat yourself but since we were a party of 6 we had to get seated. There was no wait. I ordered a decaf coffee, I'm always weary about decaf in restaurants as experiences have been not so good, this was exception. You could taste the toast in the coffee and was perfect. The friendly waitress took our orders. I ordered the chorizo egg scramble dish. It was good and portion size was perfect. My youngest daughter ordered a grill cheese with fries. Fries are my weakness but I am picky about them. They serve you seasoned fries which were just great. There's an avocado ranch that they can serve along with them. So good. The place is consistently busy. Seems like a popular restaurant. It is family friendly. It's a must try. We will be back again.
First time my family came here 2 months ago amazing ,French toast was cooked perfect and my corned beef hash was moist and well seasoned both delicious....and then 2 weeks ago the French toast was overly oily still good but a vast difference from our first encounter!!! I also tried the chicken fried steak and country potato's along with steak and eggs, potatoes were amazing, chicken fried steak was good not great and the New York steak was tasty and good as well, great spot , good service. We will be back
A hidden gem! The blackberry chicken salad was amazing - one of my favorite salads ever and I will definitely be back for another one. My husband had the ghoulish and it was also excellent- very flavorful and full of quality ingredients. My daughter had the turkey pesto sandwich and loved it with a side of tomato bisque, probably the only tomato soup I've ever tried and actually liked.
All the bread products made fresh in-house, Yum Whenever we are in Reno we stop for a late lunch at Josef's Vienna Bakery & Cafe. This time we went at 11:30a on a Tues, the peak of the lunch rush. The advantage was the bakery had a larger offering. We always select the takeaway treats before lunch, I know, maybe not the wisest plan but it works for us. This trip included a Bear Claw, Apple Oat muffin, Lemon Poppy scone, Cinnamon Twist, and Bread Pudding muffin. The Bread Pudding muffin is amazing, light, and airy with a crisp exterior. Unlike any other bread pudding I have had elsewhere. All the breads used in the restaurant are made in house. Not sure what type of bread they use in the bread pudding, maybe brioche, but it is def worth a try if you think bread pudding is simply French Toast with smaller pieces. The disadvantage of an early lunch, even on a weekday, is a much more crowded restaurant. We were lucky and sat at the last available inside table. Tables on the patio were available. While the restaurant was full this time, we did not feel rushed. Tables turn at a reasonable rate. Service is friendly and fast. Our orders have always been correct and service, water and coffee refills, quick and attentive. Regardless of the day of the week, or time, people at different tables are always greeting each other. Josef's seems to be a real neighborhood place. I wish it was in our neighborhood! Lunch included: Chicken fried steak w eggs, potatoes, & toast; Bratwurst plate (incl red cabbage, sauerkraut, and potatoes or spaetzle); Cuban sandwich w choice of sm salad, mac salad or potato salad; & Blackberry Chicken salad w roll. Some choices include a cookie or a small danish. Oh the advantages of an in-house bakery! The Blackberry salad was wonderfully colorful and included strawberries, 1/2 avocado and pecans. Past choices we enjoyed include Black Forest Ham & Brie Panini, Eggplant Panini, and asst omelets. Everything has been good and we try something new each time. The vast offering is well thought out, novel combinations with different flavors. Parking, a shared lot, has not been an issue in our experience. Only thing to watch out for is the kitchen closes at 3p. That info is all over the signs and menus. The hours for Josef's goes to 5p certain days. Appears the 2hour difference is for the bakery, coffee, and the leisure of their customers, not certain. Multiple Macarons, 15+flavors await sampling on another trip
Best Country Gravy I've had in years. Josef's is a place we heard about, driven by but have never been. That changed today. We went there for breakfast. Their entire menu breakfast & lunch are served all day. Going on Father's Day, without any reservation is always a risky deal. We were able to get seated without much fuss or wait. The restaurant is bright and airy. There are plenty of staff to take care of orders or just refill your waters. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and my wife ordered the French Toast. I like to order my Chicken Fried Steak with the gravy on the side, so that the steak part doesn't get soggy. I will say, the Country Gravy was the highlight of the meal. The Chicken Fried Steak, looked a bit dry and overcooked but that could not be further from the truth. The Steak was crunchy and moist. When combined with the Country Gravy, O-M-G. Delicious. The breakfast potatoes and eggs were equally delicious. Served as baguettes, on the surface, the French Toast looked overcooked. Not true. The French Toast had a nice snap to it and the inside was soft and flavorful. All in all, a wonderfully prepared and delicious meal. Josef's will definitely be in our rotation of breakfast places in town.
Nice spring break day for lunch with a friend! My first time here so checked out the menu ahead of time so I'd know what to order. Got there about 1130 so plenty of seating available. Our waitress came quickly to take our drink orders. My friend wanted iced tea but was told they didn't have any. I pointed out a berry iced tea on the menu and our waitress said they don't have any. Strange they serve hot tea but not iced?? Anyways we ordered water instead. I ordered a BLT on sourdough which came with a side salad. My friend ordered tomato bisque with a half grilled ham and Brie sandwich. Our order came fairly soon but enough time for us to talk and catch up. We were both happy with our meals. My salad was a good sized portion and her soup was very good she said with croutons. You get a cookie with your meal which I saved for later and took home half my sandwich. We checked out the beautiful desserts and each took some home! They have a very nice breakfast menu also, maybe next time!
3/20/2024- Ordered a custom cake a few days ago.. Really wanted a chocolate cake with whip cream and chocolate shavings, but they only can do certain standard cakes.. Picked up on time and for the price the cake was really good. Nice and light and not too sweet... Bakery always has nice supply of yummy goodies..
